The Geological Engineering Department of Hacettepe University (www.hacettepe.edu.tr) was established in 1968 to offer education at undergraduate and graduate levels aiming at meeting the need for engineers who are well qualified to investigate geological characteristics of the earth, to study on the protective measures against natural disasters, to solve the problems related to exploration and development of natural resources and geotechnical problems.
The main areas of interest and research topics of thesis conducted by the Applied Geology Division of the department are concentrated on slope stability, rock and soil mechanics, particularly on rock characterization and swelling phenomena, landslides, earthquake-induced failures such as liquefaction and application of fuzzy logic in engineering geology. In addition, courses for the engineers of some goverment establishments are also organized by this division.
